Marriage Can Be War – Selina Boateng

Gospel musician Selina Boateng has shared insights from her six-year marriage, detailing three adjustments she would make and offering guidance for those considering remarriage. On Angel FM, she noted patience as an essential attribute in marriage. "If I could advise those embarking on a new marriage, I would emphasize the importance of patience," she said.

Stressing that marriage can be a "war" if one lacks this virtue, she clarified that this was not intended to alarm anyone, but rather to share her personal experiences. Selina explained that many individuals are drawn to the romantic aspects of marriage, like grand weddings, without fully preparing for the marital challenges. Describing marriage as "extremely rough," she suggested that wisdom and understanding are required to manage its complexities.

She also advocated for ongoing counseling for couples instead of confining it to a limited timeframe. "Just like school, marriage is an ongoing learning process, with new lessons at every stage," she emphasized. As her third suggestion, Selina advised prospective spouses to be devout in their faith and cautioned against succumbing to societal pressures.

She discouraged rushing into marriage solely due to age or the need for a quick settlement. She confirmed in 2025 that her six-year marriage to Isaac Berchie, which took place on December 7, 2019, had concluded. Despite the divorce, Selina expressed no regret or shame regarding her marital status and noted that she has not faced any stigma as a result of the dissolution of her marriage.
