Mumbai, September 7, 2026: A senior citizen woman from Nagpur was duped of over ₹24 lakh by scammers who impersonated a businessman from the UK, a courier company official, and a CBI officer. The victim, a retired state government official, accepted a Facebook friend request from an unknown person and began chatting with them. After gaining her trust, the scammer claimed to run a car showroom in the UK and offered to send gifts.
A few days later, the victim received a call from someone claiming to be from a courier company, informing her that her package from the UK had arrived. Shortly after, a person posing as a CBI officer informed the victim that she needed to pay multiple charges before she could claim her gift. The scammers convinced the victim to transfer over Rs 24 lakh, but when she did not receive any gifts, she realized she had been deceived and reported the incident to the police.
