Macao Union Medical Center expands medical tourism ties in Southeast Asia

Macao Union Medical Center, associated with Peking Union Medical College Hospital, has bolstered its medical tourism connections in Southeast Asia. From 29 August to 5 September, a delegation led by Macao's Chief Executive, Sam Hou Fai, toured Singapore, Indonesia, and Malaysia to exchange ideas and conduct research. The visit aimed to enhance ties between Macao and healthcare institutions in the region, explore regional medical service development, and demonstrate the center's professional capabilities in international cooperation.

The delegation visited top private hospitals in Singapore, such as Raffles Hospital, and clinical research institutions in Malaysia. Macao Union Medical Center showcased its proficiency in treating complex and rare diseases, delivering high-quality, standardized services for Macao residents and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Focusing on clinical research, the delegation examined Southeast Asian biobanks, biopharmaceutical R&D, and clinical trial implementation models. The visit offers a blueprint for Macao Union Medical Center to harness its resources, improve research platforms, and advance key disciplines while standardizing international clinical trial management.

Macao Union Medical Center believes that Macao holds significant potential for health industry collaboration with the three Southeast Asian countries. In the future, the center intends to benchmark against global medical standards, strengthen cooperation in clinical diagnosis, treatment, scientific research, and talent training.

By leveraging Macao's unique advantages, such as its connection between inland China and the world, the center aims to establish a high-end healthcare platform that integrates medical care and tourism, ultimately driving diversified economic development in the city.
