Lekié FF make history with maiden CAF WCL’s qualification

Lekié FF have made history as the first Cameroonian club to secure a spot in the CAF Women’s Champions League (WCL) after finishing atop the UNIFFAC qualifying tournament. The Cameroonian team clinched their place in the continental finals on Friday following a 0-0 draw against DR Congo’s Football Academy Msichana at the Omnisports Annex Stadium No. 1.

This accomplishment marked a significant milestone for Cameroonian women’s club football, as no team from the country had ever reached the final phase of the CAF Women’s Champions League before. Lekié FF’s qualification followed an impressive period for women’s football in Cameroon, with the Indomitable Lionesses recently winning the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Coach Ndzana led the team through the UNIFFAC qualifiers with consistency, and they entered their final match knowing that avoiding defeat would secure top spot. The team played the decisive match with discipline, keeping Msichana at bay and completing the campaign without a loss. The achievement was celebrated at the Omnisports Annex Stadium, with players and officials marking a historic moment in the club’s journey.

Lekié FF’s qualification comes shortly after they won the Cameroon Cup, adding another major triumph to their successful period. The team will now focus on preparing for their debut appearance in the CAF Women’s Champions League, where they will face some of Africa’s top women’s clubs.
