Landtagswahl: AfD verpasst absolute Mehrheit knapp, BSW gelingt Einzug ins Landesparlament

Sachsen-Anhalt's Landtag election saw the AfD secure a historic win with 43.8% of the vote, becoming the strongest party by a wide margin. The AfD's support increased by 23 percentage points compared to the 2021 election. In contrast, the CDU suffered heavily, dropping to 17.2% of the vote. While the AfD's victory doesn't give them an outright majority, they would secure 39 of the 83 seats.

An outright majority requires 42 seats, meaning the AfD is three short. AfD leader Ulrich Siegmund pledged to extend a hand to all parties willing to implement a fundamental political turnaround. For the CDU, the election results marked a significant setback, with them likely to secure just 15 seats. The Greens saw an 8.9% increase, up by three points, while the SPD managed to win 9.3% and gain slightly. The FDP, however, failed to cross the 5% threshold, ending up with 2.6%.
