A recent visit by US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Moscow and Kiev did not bring Ukraine closer to peace, according to those present. He plans to continue bombarding Ukrainian civilians for another winter to enhance his negotiating position. Russia aims to achieve its war objectives through military means, explained Witkoff and Kushner during their stay in Kiev. The Americans' renewed interest in Ukraine appears primarily due to domestic political calculations, regardless of how unlikely a peace initiative may be.
