Kenya: UDA Intensifies Kisii Mobilisation As Faruk Kibet Counters Matiang'i Ahead of 2027

In Kisii County, Kenya, the UDA, led by President William Ruto's aide Faruk Kibet, is intensifying its mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2027 General Election. Kibet, who has been making frequent visits to the Gusii region, is focusing on empowering the youth, women, and boda boda operators through various programmes. The Kenya Kwanza administration, according to Kibet, is committed to supporting small businesses and improving access to economic opportunities at the grassroots level, emphasizing that President Ruto's plan aims to ensure resources reach the people directly, such as small-scale traders and young people.

As the Gusii region becomes a pivotal battleground for the upcoming elections, former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i, who is from the area, has declared his interest in the presidency, seeking to establish a robust political base within his home region. Kibet's increased presence in Kisii County is seen by political analysts as an attempt by the UDA to counter Matiang'i’s growing influence and secure the region's loyalty within the Kenya Kwanza camp.

Kibet has urged the local populace to maintain their support for the administration, stating that development programs can be sustained through collaboration with the government. The empowerment programs have garnered support from various elected officials across different constituencies within the Gusii region, including Kitutu Chache North MP Japhet Nyakundi, South Mugirango MP Silvanus Osoro, Nyaribari Chache MP Zaheer Jhanda, and others.

This alignment with the Kenya Kwanza administration is expected to provide the UDA with a significant grassroots network, which could be crucial as the political landscape evolves in preparation for the 2027 election. However, Matiang'i is anticipated to mount a determined challenge in the region.
