The 6-foot-1 fighter, who has quickly risen through the ranks in the UFC, believes that a more favorable matchup, such as against Sergei, would be more appropriate. Hokit criticized the UFC's recent matchmaking decisions, stating that the company is "f***ing cooked" if they continue to make such choices.

He emphasized that American fans deserve an American champion and a fight that hasn't been seen recently. Hokit also denounced the eligibility of Ilia Topuria and Alex Pereira for immediate title-shot rematches, insisting that both fighters were "handily destroyed" in their previous fights and should have to earn their way back to the title shot like everyone else.
