The Notre Dame Fighting Irish face a challenging season as they grapple with the absence of star running back Jeremiyah Love, who departed for the NFL draft. Fans noticed a decline in the team's offensive performance after Love's departure, especially during Sunday's season opener against the Wisconsin Badgers. Despite a strong start, the Irish were unable to maintain their momentum and ultimately lost the game.

Marcus Freeman, Notre Dame's head coach, acknowledged the impact of Love's departure on the team's offensive strategies. Love, who had previously been the fifth-string option and later became the starting running back, contributed significantly to the team's success in previous seasons. In 2024 alone, he rushed for 1,125 yards and 17 touchdowns, helping Notre Dame reach the national championship game. However, the team fell short of advancing to the playoffs, finishing with a record of 10-2.

To fill the void left by Love, Freeman turned to sophomore Aneyas Williams. Williams made an immediate impact during the opening game, scoring a three-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter to put Notre Dame ahead 20-10. He continued to perform well, scoring another touchdown in the fourth quarter, extending the Irish's lead to 34-13. Williams joined Notre Dame in 2024 and has already posted 443 yards and seven touchdowns in the past two seasons.
