Ishan Kishan fails to make highest individual Duleep Trophy score despite impressive 250 runs

Dubai: The final of the Duleep Trophy has showcased batting brilliance by the East Zone, led by captain Ishan Kishan. On Day 1, the team posted an impressive total of 385 for 4 against South Zone. Kishan's performance was pivotal in maintaining the lead, contributing a remarkable 250 runs off 301 balls, which ranks him as the 12th highest individual score in the Duleep Trophy's history.

However, despite his outstanding innings, Kishan was forced to retire hurt due to fatigue. His 34 boundaries, with 27 of them being fours, set a high standard for his batting prowess. Although Kishan did not break any records with his bat, the East Zone now has a shot at rewriting history. The highest team total in the Duleep Trophy stands at 868, achieved by North Zone in 1987.

As of now, East Zone has amassed 626 runs with four wickets in hand, narrowly trailing behind the record. With Kishan's absence, the challenge for East Zone to surpass the record becomes significant. At 28, Kishan has only two Test international caps to his name, with his last red ball match being against the West Indies in July 2023.
