Investigators probe Amazon cargo plane crash in Miami that kills at least 5

Federal investigators are probing the crash of an Amazon cargo jet at Miami International Airport, which resulted in the deaths of at least five people. The plane, a Boeing 767, overran the runway and crashed into vehicles, trapping the pilot and copilot in the cockpit. The crash occurred on Sunday around 2 p.m., after the plane had landed from San Juan, Puerto Rico, and was heading to Miami from the airport's designated landing zone.

Federal investigators, led by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), are likely to focus on whether the plane touched down too late to stop safely, examining factors such as the plane's landing position, speed, braking, weather and wind conditions, and the aircraft's mechanical condition. The crash halted flights at the busy travel hub, with 200 emergency personnel responding to the scene.

The NTSB will also examine the maintenance history of the plane, as it has a history of foreign ownership, including by a Russian company.
