Illinois mom charged with killing toddler was closely following Lindsay Clancy trial, officials say

An Illinois mother, Corie Walsh, 40, has been charged with first-degree murder for the death of her 2-year-old son, Barrett, prosecutors have announced. The case has taken an interesting turn as officials claim Walsh had been closely following the trial of Lindsay Clancy, a Massachusetts mother accused of murdering her three children, just hours prior to her son's discovery.

Walsh was texting friends about the Clancy trial shortly before her son was found dead in the basement of their suburban Chicago home on September 1st. Prosecutors say Walsh became "very invested" in Clancy's trial and expressed her belief that her son was the "devil" and the "anti-Christ" to friends before her son's death. Walsh was found in the bathtub of the house with self-inflicted injuries, while Barrett was discovered less than four hours later by a neighbor. An autopsy revealed that Barrett died from asphyxia caused by ligature compression of the neck.
