Govt Yet to Approve Industrial Policies for Autos, Batteries, Electronics and Solar

The Indian government has not yet authorized proposed industrial policies covering automobiles, batteries, electronics, solar manufacturing, and energy storage, according to a Ministry of Industries and Production document. The policy draft preparation process, overseen by the Engineering Development Board (EDB), has been halted until approval by the governing body is secured.

The EDB, an attached department of the Ministry, consulted with stakeholders from relevant sectors before formulating the initial policy proposals. These consultations included industry associations, manufacturers, investors, technology experts, and other relevant parties. Several meetings were held to gather recommendations, evaluate industry needs, and build consensus on the proposed measures.

Once approved, the EDB will oversee implementation, monitor progress, and periodically review the policies. The targets for domestic manufacturing, exports, technology transfer, employment generation, and import substitution are still being determined. The ministry intends to disclose these targets and other details of the policy frameworks after the respective policies receive formal approval.
