Ghana Premier League: Hearts make emphatic winning start, Debibi United hold Kotoko

In the opening match of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League (GPL), Hearts of Oak delivered an impressive start to their campaign with a 4-0 win over Berekum Chelsea at the University of Ghana Stadium. Veteran striker John Antwi scored twice in the first half, and Mohammed Ali and Mamadou Kourouma added more goals to secure the victory for the Phobians.

This win gave new coach Nebojsa Kapor his first competitive win and provided a morale boost after their recent loss to Asante Kotoko in the Democracy Cup. Meanwhile, Debibi United secured a memorable 2-2 draw against Asante Kotoko at the Golden City Park. Despite Kotoko's early lead through Yakubu Dogo, Richard Owusu's two goals helped the debutants to a point.

Bechem United also began their season on a high note, defeating champions Bibiani Gold Stars 1-0 at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park. Basake Holy Stars started their campaign with a narrow 1-0 win over Swedru All Blacks, thanks to Francis Oteng Gyetuah's second-half goal. Port City FC and FC AshantiGold '04 shared a 1-1 draw in their season opener, with Zak Musah giving AshantiGold the lead before Hamza Zakari levelled.

Vision FC started their season strongly with a 3-0 victory over Young Apostles FC, with Setsofia Aketey scoring twice and Naziru Alhassan adding the third goal.
