Flea market shopper uncovers $1,500 worth of Samsung SSDs inside a $30 expansion card — Three 2TB 980 Pro drives were hidden beneath an Asus Hyper M.2 heatsink

Storage prices have skyrocketed in recent months due to a global component shortage. Thrifty shopper Sunny discovered an incredible deal at a local flea market in Kuwait City - a seemingly insignificant PCIe expansion card purchased for $30. To his amazement, the card was already housing three Samsung 980 Pro 2TB SSDs. These high-capacity drives, currently retailing for around $444 on Amazon and $499 on Newegg, are valued at between $1,300 and $1,500 altogether.

Even without the SSDs, the expansion card itself costs $79, making this a valuable find in itself. The card shows signs of wear but appears largely intact, while the drives look virtually pristine, suggesting they were likely unused. The card's design allows for additional M.2 drives to be installed in a system using an x16 slot typically reserved for GPUs.
