FIBA World Cup: D’Tigress crash out after France thrashing

Nigeria's D’Tigress were eliminated from the 2026 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup after a 111-56 loss to France in their final Group B match in Berlin. The African champions finished at the bottom of the group after earlier defeats to South Korea and Hungary. France dominated the game from the start, taking a 31-13 lead after the first quarter and adding 34 points in the second.

They went on to score 30 more points in the third quarter, leading 95-39 into the final period. Nigeria managed only 17 points in the fourth quarter. The victory marked a new Women's World Cup record, with France making 22 three-pointers, surpassing the previous record of 20 set by Japan. Gabby Williams led France with 25 points, while D’Tigress' Efosa-Aguebor contributed 15.

The defeat was a disappointing end to a tournament where D’Tigress struggled to match their previous peak performance, having opened as five-time consecutive African champions and the continent's highest-ranked women's basketball team.
