Europe’s biggest mobile operators in talks for satellite-to-mobile venture, Bloomberg News reports

Deutsche Telekom, Orange, Vodafone Group, and Telefonica are reportedly discussing the formation of a consortium to potentially bid on satellite spectrum for mobile services in Europe, according to Bloomberg News. The European Union has proposed reserving 2 gigahertz of airwaves for a local operator, with the aim of boosting sovereign satellite capabilities.

This consortium would jointly bid for a share of these frequencies, creating a European competitor to Elon Musk's Starlink service. As of now, no final decisions have been made regarding the consortium or bidding plans. While Vodafone and Orange declined to comment, Deutsche Telekom and Telefonica have yet to respond to requests for comment.

This initiative aligns with the EU's efforts to develop independent satellite communication systems.
