Edu leaves Nottingham Forest after turbulent spell

Edu has departed Nottingham Forest after less than a year at the club, having failed to make appearances since February. The former Arsenal midfielder's exit was anticipated, with his role reportedly terminated. Edu's tenure was marred by a dispute with former manager Nuno Espirito Santo, who was dismissed in September last year - one of four managers to leave Forest last season.

At the time, Nuno spoke of strained relations between himself and owner Evangelos Marinakis. Edu's responsibilities included Greek club Olympiacos and Portuguese side Rio Ave, both owned by Marinakis. He joined Nottingham Forest in July 2025, succeeding Greek sporting director Theodore Giannikos. Before Forest, Edu served as Arsenal's sporting director following his two-year tenure at the club as a player, during which he helped them win two Premier League titles and two FA Cups.

Giannikos assumed the chief executive role last week, replacing Lina Souloukou, who had left the position at the end of last season.
