Dubai Basketball make statement signing in Thomas Walkup

Dubai Basketball has signed versatile European defender Thomas Walkup on a multi-year contract, bolstering their roster for the upcoming 2026/27 season. The Greek international is set to join the club from Olympiacos, where he spent five successful seasons. Standing at 1.93 meters, Walkup brings championship experience and elite defensive skills to the team.

"Thomas is a very important signing for Dubai Basketball," said Dejan Kamenjasevic, President of Dubai Basketball. "His understanding of the game, competitiveness, and ability to elevate the performance of his teammates will be invaluable for our squad." Walkup's signing comes after a title-winning campaign with Olympiacos, where he helped the Greek giants claim the 2025/26 EuroLeague championship after defeating Real Madrid in Athens.

During the 2024-25 season, Walkup played 37 EuroLeague games, averaging 5.3 points, 5.7 assists, and 2.6 rebounds per game. His defensive prowess was highlighted by his EuroLeague Best Defender award in 2024 and his lead in steals during the 2022/23 season. With a basketball career that began in the United States, Walkup played college basketball before catching the attention of NBA teams.

He briefly played for the Golden State Warriors and Chicago Bulls before joining Olympiacos. Now, as reigning ABA League champions, Dubai Basketball looks to build on their success in the upcoming season, with Walkup's leadership, defensive abilities, and winning mentality providing a significant boost to the team.
