Defence Day event in Karachi honours fallen soldiers and military heroes

A Defence Day ceremony held at Iqra University honored Pakistan's military and national heroes, emphasizing the importance of young people in the nation's progress. Organized by the Sindh government's Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, the event marked 6 September, commemorating the 1965 war between Pakistan and India. The program featured speakers recalling the war's events, the armed forces' role, and sacrifices made.

A panel discussion included retired military officers like Vice Admiral Shah Sohail Masood, Air Vice Marshal Usaid-ur-Rehman Usmani, and Brigadier Syed Karrar Hussain Shah. They discussed the war's background and the armed forces' contributions while urging students to actively participate in Pakistan's future. Director General of the Press Information Department Mrs. Iram Tanveer attended as a guest of honor and paid tribute to those who lost their lives defending the country.

Munawar Ali Mahesar, Sindh secretary for sports and youth affairs, described Defence Day as a reminder of national unity, sacrifice, determination, and patriotism, urging young people to contribute to development through education, skills, and responsible behavior. Additional Secretary Dr Asad Ishaq also addressed the gathering.

Certificates were given to students, and commemorative shields were awarded to speakers and participants. The organizers aimed to deepen young people's understanding of Pakistan's history and inspire them to become responsible citizens.
