Day after Delhi building collapse, ABVP steps up protests, seeks accountability from MCD

Seven people died and at least 12 were hospitalized after a residential building collapsed in Delhi, India. The exact number of people inside the five-story building remains unknown, but eyewitnesses reported anywhere from two to four dozen individuals were present. The building's owner has been arrested, and five senior civic officials have been suspended following the tragedy.

The collapse is believed to have been caused by the accumulation of water and ongoing repair work in the basement. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that the building was around 40 or 50 years old. An excavator is currently working to clear the debris, with approximately 80% cleared as of Monday morning. Hospital officials are unsure if the casualties include students, local residents, or workers from the building.

The National Students' Union of India called for a government investigation into the collapse and held anyone responsible accountable.
