Da Cruz reveals why Kaizer Chiefs ditched their 4-3-3

Kaizer Chiefs coach Fernando da Cruz has explained why his team has switched to a 5-2-3 formation for their recent matches, despite starting the season with a 4-3-3. The coach revealed that injuries have been a key factor in the change, though the opposition and the available players also influence his decisions. Speaking to the media, da Cruz stated, "For the moment, I’m happy we’re able to play two systems but for the moment it’s related to the injured players so sometimes it will also depend on the opponent and the different profile of players."

This indicates that Kaizer Chiefs are not abandoning the 4-3-3 but rather utilizing their tactical flexibility to adapt to each match's circumstances. The 5-2-3 formation has contributed to the team's unbeaten start, as their recent victory over Siwelele FC extended their winning streak to three wins and two draws from their first five league matches.

However, da Cruz emphasized that they will not strictly adhere to one system throughout the season, stating, "We want to be a good team but it will depend on the perimeters but no we will not play the system the entire season." With players returning from injury and facing various opponents, Chiefs may switch between systems as the season progresses. The next match for the coach is an away fixture against Polokwane City next Saturday.
