Customs rakes in N4.03trn in H1

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) collected a staggering N4.03 trillion in the first half of 2026, with an additional M1.38 trillion gathered in July and August, positioning the Service to achieve its ambitious N11 trillion annual revenue target. Nigerian Finance Minister, Taiwo Oyedele, applauded the NCS for its impressive fiscal performance, technological advancements, and trade facilitation reforms during his inauguration board meeting and facility visit in Abuja.

Oyedele commended the leadership and staff of the NCS for modernizing operations and bolstering revenue collection, crediting their efforts to aggressive automation, intelligence-led reforms, and enhanced cargo processing strategies under Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi. While the minister acknowledged the NCS's achievements, he urged them to set higher standards in trade facilitation, particularly in port efficiency, transparency, clearance timelines, and revenue integrity.

Oyedele emphasized that results should drive further improvements and stressed Nigeria's potential to lead through performance rather than mere rhetoric. He highlighted the Customs Service's investments in intelligence tools and technology as a strong foundation for the nation to become a leading trade facilitator in Africa, promising continued support from the Federal Government under President Bola Tinubu's administration.
