Cooler temperatures with wet and windy weather forecast for UK this week

Meteorological summer has concluded, schools have reopened, and the UK is once again experiencing unsettled weather. Following a heat surge on Sunday, low pressure systems will persist, delivering wet and windy conditions, particularly in the northern regions of the UK during the week's onset, before conditions improve on Wednesday and Thursday.

Many areas in England and Wales are expected to feel cooler, following Sunday's temperatures that reached 29C (84F) in southeast England. Despite a largely dry weekend for many, last week marked the wettest week in England since early February, according to the Environment Agency.

A weather front, primarily a band of cloud with intermittent showers, is traversing England and Wales as pressure drops on Monday, and the wind direction shifts. The windy weather in northern regions will be accompanied by frequent showers. In the southeast, a spell of rain from overnight will linger on Tuesday morning before dissipating. As the low pressure moves into the North Sea on Wednesday, the east coast will experience windy conditions. Apart from these localized impacts, a dry midweek is expected for most of the UK, with sunny spells and lighter winds.

Shower activity is anticipated to return to western parts of the UK on Thursday but will fade on Friday as they move eastward. Midweek temperatures are expected to be near the seasonal average, with the warmest temperatures in southeast England of 22C.
