Israel's National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir expressed concern over a High Court of Justice directive that permits visits for Nukhba terrorists for the first time since October 7, in a statement released on Monday. Ben-Gvir contended that the decision would weaken Israel's security deterrence, highlighting the impact of stricter conditions for security prisoners.

"The High Court’s directive to allow visits to Nukhba terrorists for the first time since October 7 constitutes a direct blow to the State of Israel’s security deterrence," he said.

The minister also drew a link between the decline in terrorist attacks and reforms in prison conditions. According to the Shin Bet, there has been an approximately 75% decrease in terrorist attacks, partly due to prison reform efforts, he stated. Ben-Gvir accused the High Court of prioritizing the interests of Israel's enemies. "Unfortunately, the High Court consistently serves as an address for appeals by the enemy," he remarked, referencing Justice Amit's comments in a related case.

As the National Security Minister, Ben-Gvir has emphasized tightening prison conditions for October 7 terrorists and supporting the death penalty for terrorists as his top priorities. He has maintained that the death penalty law, passed in April, would deter further attacks like the October 7 massacre. Despite international criticism, Ben-Gvir defended the measure, aligning Israel with US capital punishment policies.

He has continued to advocate for harsher prison conditions and capital punishment as crucial elements of his strategy to combat terrorism.

Ben-Gvir also discussed the construction of an execution facility for terrorists in August, reaffirming his commitment to worsening prison conditions and implementing the Death Penalty for Terrorists Law.
