BSP's Next Move: Mayawati Elevates Nephew Ishan Anand, Key State Role Likely

Lucknow: Mayawati, the head of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), has chosen to introduce her younger nephew Ishan Anand into active politics, hinting at a potential change in the party's leadership structure following the removal of his elder brother Akash Anand as national coordinator. Ishan has been assigned an organizational role within the party, taking charge of a significant sector.

This appointment came after an extensive meeting at the BSP state office on Sunday, where the party deliberated on its organizational strategy and preparations for upcoming political challenges. Ishan is expected to be assigned additional state responsibilities, but the BSP has not officially announced this yet. He is reported to report directly to Mayawati and his father Anand Kumar, the BSP's national vice-president.

This move underscores Mayawati's continued reliance on the family for a crucial organizational position, yet it does not immediately position Ishan as a political heir. Ishan has recently increased his presence at pivotal party gatherings, including a meeting of BSP national office-bearers and Mayawati's birthday function earlier this year.

This heightened visibility has led to speculation about the party chief potentially assigning him a more substantial role. Further organizational adjustments are anticipated, potentially impacting senior BSP figures like Ramji Gautam and Lala Ram, who may also receive additional duties, including state leadership. Ishan's rise comes as the BSP strives to revitalize its organization ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.

Mayawati has been aiming to regain control over the party's structure after a series of challenges and internal changes. Ishan's integration into the organizational framework follows Akash Anand's removal from the national coordinator position, marking the latest significant shift involving the younger nephew.
