Balogun red card U-turn prompts Belgium to withdraw support for Infantino

The Belgian football federation (RBFA) has stated that they will not support Fifa president Gianni Infantino for a second term unless they receive satisfactory answers regarding the handling of the Folarin Balogun red-card case at the World Cup and other governance concerns. The RBFA has requested explanations on the disciplinary process involving Balogun, whose red-card ban was suspended by Fifa after US President Donald Trump urged Infantino to review the case.

The federation emphasized the need for transparent and rigorous handling of such cases to maintain Fifa's credibility and the good governance of international football. The RBFA has also requested that the Balogun case be placed on the agenda for the next Fifa Council meeting on October 15. Additionally, the federation has raised concerns about Fifa Forward Enterprise, pointing out that several decisions and assessments lacked sufficient justification, highlighting broader worries about transparency and governance.

RBFA President Pascale Van Damme expressed disappointment, noting that two months after the World Cup, their questions about the Balogun case remain unanswered. The Belgian federation has maintained close communication with Fifa, aiming to obtain clarity and explore improvements to current processes. The federation remains in close contact with UEFA over these issues and continues to push for greater transparency in Fifa's decision-making.
