Balochistan to Get Satellite Connection for 1500 Health Centers

The Balochistan government has announced plans to provide satellite connectivity and implement telemedicine services for 1,500 healthcare centers in the province. The aim is to enhance healthcare delivery, especially in remote and underserved regions. The provincial government is leading the digital health initiatives, while cooperating with the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) for satellite connectivity.

In addition to this, the government has undertaken extensive reforms in legislation, governance, human resources, and healthcare delivery. Eight health laws have been passed, and over 20 administrative and financial powers have been decentralized in the past 18 months. Approximately 2,739 healthcare workers have been hired, and 4,254 health personnel have been promoted, including more than 600 doctors whose promotions were made possible through the waiver of annual confidential reports.

The government has also reinstated 164 non-functional Basic Health Units. While healthcare is a provincial subject, the Ministry of National Health Services has expressed willingness to offer technical guidance, coordination, and facilitation as needed. The federal government may extend its support through policy coordination, knowledge sharing, and technical assistance for telemedicine, digital health, and disease surveillance systems.
