Anutin defends deporting foreigners over bad behavior

Bangkok, September 7, 2026 — Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has stated that Thailand will continue with the deportation of a French national, marking the second foreigner to be expelled under the new Interior Ministry regulations. Anutin, who serves as Interior Minister, addressed this matter at Parliament on September 7 when questioned about the deportation.

He reaffirmed that the law is already in place and must be enforced. When asked if the first Israeli national deported under the new rules had filed an appeal, Anutin indicated that the appeal would directly be presented to the Prime Minister, as the order is signed by him. Appeals, therefore, need to be submitted to the Prime Minister.

Anutin also commented that any foreigner whose conduct is deemed inappropriate may be subjected to deportation. He emphasized that Thailand does not wish to have such individuals within its borders. Responding to inquiries about a report on an Israeli cemetery in Chachoengsao province, Anutin revealed that he had received information from Deputy Interior Minister Phonphir Suwannachavi and confirmed that such a development was not occurring and would not proceed.

He also indicated that he was unsure about the legal requirements for foreign nationals to establish a cemetery on Thai soil but stressed the importance of considering the feelings of Thai people.

When questioned about whether problems involving foreigners in Thailand were resurfacing, Anutin dismissed such concerns. "It’s not widespread. The question is incorrect. The problems have all been resolved," he stated.
