AngloGold Ashanti empowers 22 Sanso women through apprenticeship to entrepreneurship programme

AngloGold Ashanti's Obuasi Mine has successfully empowered 22 young women from the Sanso community through its Apprenticeship to Entrepreneurship (A2E) Programme. The one-year initiative focused on training the beneficiaries in hairdressing and dressmaking, providing them with essential technical and entrepreneurial skills through the company's programme.

At a graduation ceremony in Obuasi, AngloGold Ashanti presented the graduates with trade-specific start-up kits, including industrial sewing machines, salon chairs, mirrors, and hair dryers. These kits, tailored to their respective trades, were presented to help the young women establish and operate their own businesses.

Alongside the kits, the graduates received National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI) certificates, formally recognizing their technical competencies. This certification strengthens their prospects for both employment and self-employment. To improve the quality of vocational training, AngloGold Ashanti also bolstered the capacity of the master craft persons who trained the beneficiaries, equipping them with additional training and essential tools.

The company's support aims to enhance the quality of skills transferred to young people participating in the programme, fostering economic empowerment and self-reliance. Through the A2E Programme, AngloGold Ashanti seeks to create practical pathways to economic empowerment and sustainable development for young people in its host communities.
