AIA VIP Lounge to be completed without taxpayer funds – Ablakwa

The government is employing a private-sector partnership model to construct an ultramodern VIP Lounge at the Accra International Airport (AIA) without utilizing taxpayer funds, as disclosed by Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa. The project is being funded through corporate social responsibility contributions from Ghanaian businesses, who are directly paying local contractors of their choice for the facility's construction.

The Foreign Ministry’s Estate Bureau is overseeing the project to ensure adherence to required standards. This approach has facilitated work progress without public funding or traditional public procurement, showcasing the potential achievements when government collaborates with local businesses to deliver significant infrastructure while alleviating the financial strain on the state.

Upon inspecting the ongoing works on September 4, 2026, Minister Ablakwa expressed satisfaction with the progress and quality of execution, announcing that the ultramodern VIP Lounge is set to be completed and handed over by the end of 2026.
