5 killed in Amazon Prime Air cargo plane crash in US

An Amazon cargo plane operated by 21 Air crashed and overran the runway at Miami International Airport on Sunday afternoon, killing at least five people and injuring five others, according to CNN. The aircraft struck multiple vehicles and burst into flames before emergency crews arrived to rescue those trapped inside. Three of the injured were reported in critical condition and transported to a trauma center, while the remaining two were taken to a local hospital.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Chief Raied "Ray" Jadallah stated that the crash highlighted the demanding nature of the landing phase, with factors such as aircraft speed, touchdown point, runway conditions, and environmental factors playing a crucial role in a safe landing. Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz reported that there was no immediate threat to public safety, although the scene remained active as firefighters continued to work on a fuel leak.

More than 60 fire rescue units were deployed to the scene, responding to the aircraft fire and assessing the affected individuals. Kelly Nantel, an Amazon spokesperson, expressed grief over the deaths and confirmed that the company was cooperating with authorities investigating the incident. The Boeing 767-33AER aircraft, operated by 21 Air, had departed from San Juan, Puerto Rico, and landed on Runway 30 at around 2 pm local time.
