4-month-old baby dies after being found unconscious at nursery

Dungun police chief Superintendent Nik Ab Halim Nik Mat confirmed the death of a four-month-old baby girl who was discovered unconscious at a nursery in Bandar Al Muktafi Billah Shah. The infant was taken to Dungun Hospital at around 12:45 pm and pronounced dead. The police were alerted to the incident at 3:41 pm. The baby had been brought to the nursery by her mother at approximately 8 am in good health.

However, around 10 am, nursery staff discovered her unconscious and promptly sent her to the Durian Mas Health Clinic. She was subsequently transferred to Dungun Hospital. Medical personnel at the hospital tried to resuscitate the baby using respiratory assistance, but she was declared dead at about 12:45 pm. The initial examination revealed no physical injuries on the baby's body, and a post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

Police have initiated an investigation under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 to determine if there was any negligence or neglect while the baby was in the nursery's care. Two caregivers on duty at the time have been identified, and their statements will be recorded to aid the investigation. Police will also collect statements from the parents and other relevant witnesses, along with medical reports and opinions from medical authorities.
