2027: Makinde rejects subsidy, proposes cheaper domestic crude pricing

Former Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement, has rejected the restoration of fuel subsidies in favor of domestic crude pricing. During the commissioning of his campaign office in Abuja, Makinde stated that this proposal aims to make crude oil supplied to domestic refineries less expensive for Nigerians, rather than reviving the old subsidy regime.

He criticized the current pricing of crude oil as if it comes from abroad, rather than recognizing Nigeria's oil production. Makinde emphasized the need for complete transparency in the petroleum value chain, including production, allocation, refining, transportation, distribution, taxes, and retail margins. He stated that Nigerians deserve to know how the final price is determined and who benefits from the payments.

The APM candidate called for Nigerians to be active participants in the "Reset Nigeria" conversation, urging them to voice their concerns and participate in improving the country.
