Zelenskyy begins Kyiv talks with Witkoff, Kushner on ending the war

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy initiated discussions with U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner regarding the cessation of the ongoing war in Kyiv, according to Zelenskyy's announcement on the Telegram platform on September 6. Zelenskyy expressed his satisfaction with the delegation's arrival, emphasizing the long-awaited presence of the U.S. representatives.

He showcased video footage of his meeting with Witkoff and Kushner, as well as their visit to Kyiv's St. Sophia Cathedral, captioning the video: "The talks have begun."

On September 6, U.S. President Donald Trump's special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner arrived in Ukraine for the very first time to engage in talks aimed at bringing an end to the war. Prior to their arrival in Kyiv, on September 5, Witkoff and Kushner had a series of talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. The Kremlin disclosed that during these meetings, the U.S. envoys presented Putin with their proposed ideas for possible avenues to conclude Russia's war against Ukraine.

Following the arrival of Witkoff and Kushner in Kyiv, Zelenskyy conveyed that Ukraine's airports were prepared to receive the U.S. delegation. However, he also highlighted the obstruction from Russian occupying forces, which prevented the U.S. delegation from boarding a flight to Ukraine.
