The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran announced it had launched a barrage of ballistic missiles at two US warships and a destroyer in the region. The IRGC accused the vessels of harassing Iranian shipping and enforcing a naval blockade against the country. The US Central Command confirmed that both the aircraft carrier and the guided-missile destroyer successfully avoided the attacks, with no American personnel harmed.

This exchange followed US forces disabling two Iranian oil tankers and destroying a third, as retaliation for previous hostile actions against American warships. CENTCOM commander Adm. Iran's IRGC Navy separately claimed it targeted three oil tankers in an unauthorized route through the Strait of Hormuz, along with three vessels linked to the United States.
