Vulcans volleyball wins pair of matches

In the Hawaii Challenge volleyball tournament at McCabe Gym, the Hawaii Hilo women's team secured a pair of victories. In the first match against Saint Martin's, Hawaii Hilo emerged victorious with scores of 25-17, 21-25, 25-23, and 25-12. Chase Koepke led the Vulcans with 16 kills, while Alohi Garcia contributed 14. 'Anolani Santos provided stellar support with 41 assists.

Hilo had previously lost their tournament opener but rebounded to win their final three matches. Olivia Bassett contributed 14 kills, and Sophie Fast added 31 assists for the Saints, who finished the season at 3-4.

In the second match, Blutreich recorded 15 kills and Garcia added 11, as Hawaii Hilo defeated Western Colorado 25-16, 25-20, and 25-18. Santos contributed 37 assists for the Vulcans, who improved their record to 8-3. Sierra Long contributed 8 kills for the Mountaineers, who finished the season at 4-4.

In another match, Megan Omlid finished with 14 kills, and Seattle Pacific's strong serving, including 12 aces, propelled them to a 25-10, 25-15, and 28-26 win over Hawaii Pacific. Sofia Cooper had 7 kills for the Sharks, who finished the season at 1-5. Avery Veenendall provided 21 assists for the Falcons, who improved to 5-3.

Elsewhere in the tournament, Chaminade outlasted Western Oregon 26-24, 25-23, 20-25, and 25-22 in a hard-fought match. Lillie Hinton led the Silverswords with 19 kills, while Malena Mihalik added 10. Kyra Pagud recorded 5 aces and 14 digs for the Vulcans, who finished the season at 6-4. Vivian Yount contributed 12 kills for the Wolves, who ended the season at 4-4.
