Vasseur Says Team Order Discussion will Take Place after Lewis Hamilton’s Plea

Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur addressed the team order discussion in the wake of Lewis Hamilton's plea. He declined to comment on the incident at Turn 1-2, where Hamilton and Charles Leclerc collided, stating that he would prefer to speak with the drivers first before discussing the matter with the media. Vasseur emphasized that a decision about team orders will be made after Monza, as it was not feasible before the Italian GP.

He cited Oscar Piastri's example from McLaren, where he believed Verstappen would have been champion if McLaren had backed Piastri instead. Vasseur acknowledged that while it might be possible for Ferrari to freeze positions, it is never an easy decision, especially at the start of the season. He reiterated that a decision will have to be taken, agreeing to Hamilton's calls for rules of engagement.

Vasseur also highlighted the lack of top speed as a significant factor in Ferrari's struggles at Monza, noting that the team was 10 km/h slower everywhere compared to rivals. He attributed this to the power unit deficiency, which was exposed by the circuit's deficiencies.
