UP: 3 sisters among 4 killed as mud house collapses in Kanpur amid rain

In Kanpur district's Hirni village, a mud house collapsed due to continuous rainfall, resulting in the tragic deaths of four family members and leaving another critically injured. The victims included Mukesh, a 45-year-old daily-wage laborer, and his three daughters - Kajal aged 19, 12, and 7 years. The incident unfolded around 9:30 am on Sunday morning when the entire family was present inside the house.

Villagers noticed the structure weakening due to the persistent rain over several days before the sudden collapse. Hearing the sound of the collapse, they rushed to the spot and initiated rescue efforts. Once rescued, the victims were taken to the Patara community health centre (CHC) for treatment. Mukesh's cousin, Tej Bahadur Singh, alleged that the family had repeatedly tried calling the Sāḍh police after the collapse, but their calls went unanswered.

He claimed that police arrived late to the scene, forcing villagers to undertake the rescue operation themselves. The family also expressed dissatisfaction over the delayed medical assistance, stating that doctors were not available at the CHC when the injured were brought there. They demanded an impartial inquiry into the incident and called for action against those responsible.

The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, extended his condolences to the bereaved family and directed officials to ensure proper treatment for the injured while assisting the deceased's family. He also wished Kajal a speedy recovery.
