Ukrainian drones reportedly target Ryazan oil refinery, cities across Russia

Ukrainian drones launched attacks on an oil refinery in Ryazan and targeted multiple cities across Russia on September 6, according to monitoring channels and authorities. Air defenses were activated in Rostov Oblast's Bataysk, a suburb of the regional capital Rostov-on-Don, as reported by the Telegram channel Exilenova Plus. Eyewitnesses in Rostov-on-Don claimed to have seen drones circling the city for four hours, leading to explosions and damage to three residential buildings.

A child was among those hospitalized, and the governor of Rostov Oblast, Yuri Slyusar, confirmed the attack. He also stated that three dozen Ukrainian drones were destroyed over the region. Rostov-on-Don Mayor Alexander Skryabin had previously warned about the engagement of air defenses in the city. Additional strikes were reported at an oil refinery in Ryazan, where a fire erupted.

These attacks occur amid a truce between Ukraine and Russia, where the two nations have agreed not to strike each other's capitals. The talks are taking place as U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner visit the two cities. Despite this truce, Russia continued its attacks outside of Kyiv, resulting in at least three fatalities and over 20 injuries on September 5.

Ukraine has consistently targeted military infrastructure deep within Russia and the occupied territories to weaken Moscow's capacity to sustain its war efforts. Notably, Ukraine conducted several waves of attacks on Sochi between September 3-4, including a naval drone strike on a Russian vessel.
