To Promote Grand Theft Auto 6, Mayor Might Transform Miami into 'Vice City'

Rockstar Games and Miami-Dade County Mayor are exploring a joint marketing push to transform parts of Miami into a recreation of Vice City from the Grand Theft Auto 6 video game, according to reports from Rock Paper Shotgun. The initiative would involve creating an immersive arrival experience at Miami International Airport, complete with signs for Vice City, planes painted with GTA 6-themed livery, branded Metromover skytrains, and specially designed manhole covers.

Another component of the plan is a dockyard installation inspired by GTA 6's Port Gellhorn, featuring cargo containers, cranes, and cruise ships. A Vice City Motor Fest is also in the works, featuring classic cars, customized vehicles, lowriders, motorcycles, tropical graphics, and local entertainment in a controlled, family-friendly atmosphere.

Attendees would be discouraged from taking any vehicles. Rockstar has even sent a team to Miami to study the city's culture and habits, including those of ex-criminals. The proposal also includes murals, buses wrapped with special signs at transit stops, and a Vice City-inspired baggage-claim installation at the airport. Additionally, the library is suggested to provide recording equipment for a Vice City Radio show, including podcasting, oral histories, and neighborhood storytelling, along with limited-edition GTA VI-inspired library cards, collectible bookmarks, Miami-themed reading and music lists, and demonstrations of new recording and production equipment.

Despite the mayor's office confirming the discussions, the sheriff of Miami-Dade County has publicly opposed the plans, citing the violent elements present in Vice City such as murder, robbery, drug trafficking, carjacking, and violence against law enforcement, which the police department works tirelessly to prevent.
