This miniature dachshund is quite the eater

Malta, a charming chocolate-and-tan miniature dachshund, arrived at the ARK shelter earlier this year when his family had to surrender him due to circumstances beyond his control. Remarkably, the small dog settled in within minutes, showing little concern for his surroundings. It appears that Malta is indifferent to his surroundings, as long as there are people around and treats to be had. Despite his young age of 5, he exudes the appearance of a much older dog, owing to his sturdy build.

Recognizing his portly appearance, Malta's name was originally "Maruta," derived from the Japanese words for "round" and "fat." The shelter staff decided to re-name him "Malta" to divert attention from his shape. The shelter staff emphasizes that Malta is one of the most amiable dogs they've encountered. He is welcoming to strangers, friends, and children alike, though he does harbor a dislike for other dogs.

Rather than integrating with them, he tends to act like a tiny tyrant, likely stemming from his love for food and a desire to keep others from partaking in what he perceives as his. Regardless, the shelter staff believes Malta is a remarkable find.
