Talks with Trump special envoys begin in Kyiv

US envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff arrived in Kyiv, Ukraine, after holding discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. The meetings took place in Moscow, where the envoys conversed for three hours, but it is unclear if a resolution was reached in the ongoing conflict. Previous US-mediated peace talks have not yielded significant results, with the Trump administration aiming to end Russia's four-and-a-half-year war in Ukraine.

Kushner and Witkoff arrived in Kyiv, where they met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and other top Ukrainian officials. Zelensky expressed optimism, stating that a window of opportunity for peace exists before the US focuses on its next presidential elections. Security guarantees and a dignified post-war peace are crucial for Ukraine, as emphasized by Zelensky.

Both Russian and Ukrainian forces have stepped up their air strikes in recent weeks, resulting in intermittent fighting along a 1,200-kilometer front. The Kremlin announced it would halt strikes on Kyiv until Monday, while Zelensky called for a halt to strikes on Moscow.
