'Student's Life Is Precious': Rahul Gandhi On Satya Niketan Building Collapse; Flags Lack Of 'Good' Hostels

New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi expressed deep concern over the lack of good hostel facilities in Delhi after the tragic building collapse at Satya Niketan. He described the news as both heartbreaking and alarming, emphasizing that students already face numerous struggles and that their lives have now become life-threatening.

Gandhi stated that due to the scarcity of quality hostels, many students are forced to reside in over-crowded PG accommodations, putting them in inhumane conditions. He reiterated that every student's life is precious and must be safeguarded at all times.

The incident at Satya Niketan, a popular hostel for Delhi University students, resulted in several people being trapped under debris, including several university students. Rescue operations are ongoing, with authorities including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Delhi Fire Service working tirelessly to save trapped individuals. As of now, six people have been rescued and taken to hospitals. The Delhi Police reported that the building collapsed in the afternoon, triggering a massive rescue operation.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta visited the site to assess the ground situation and oversee the rescue efforts. Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed his distress over the incident, assuring medical aid for the injured. Shah also spoke with key officials including the Chief Minister, Commissioner of Police, Delhi, and the Director General of NDRF, to evaluate the overall situation on the ground.
