In the latest Tom’s Guide streaming service report card for 2026, the platforms were evaluated in various key areas including price, library, originals, and live content. The grading aimed to determine which streaming service is the most worthy of a monthly subscription.

Pricing was a significant talking point, with many streamers paying more than $60 each month on streaming. Over the past 12 months, every streaming service reviewed experienced price hikes, though Apple TV saw a notable increase from $12.99 to $14.99. The cheapest tier can be found on Peacock at $7.99, but it comes with limitations such as no sports, movies, or original content. Conversely, Netflix's Premium tier is the most expensive, at $26.99 per month.

The library category is crucial for most users when considering a streaming platform. HBO Max emerged as the top scorer, offering a diverse selection of world-class television and blockbuster movies. Disney+/Hulu also performed well, thanks to its two bundled services catering to different audiences. Netflix's library has been impacted by the departure of licensed content, while Apple TV boasts a strong original programming lineup.

Prime Video has quantity but is often criticized for its low-quality content. Paramount+ has struggled to attract major movie franchises and recent buzz-worthy TV shows, with the exception of "Yellowstone." Peacock's library shines with beloved sitcoms and Universal movies, making it a must-have for reality TV fans.

Originals play a significant role in retaining subscribers. Netflix leads in this category with more original content and hits like "Stranger Things," "Squid Game," and "Wednesday," though the overall quality has been inconsistent. HBO Max and Apple TV stand out for their exceptional original television series, with HBO known for essential series and Apple TV offering variety.

Disney+ remains a go-to for Marvel and Star Wars fans, while Hulu is praised for recent original shows. Prime Video is gaining traction in teen dramas, and Peacock is essential for reality TV enthusiasts. Paramount+ had a challenging 12 months unless you're a "South Park" fan.

Lastly, the interface category received the lowest scores across all platforms, as each service has its quirks and annoyances. Despite these shortcomings, Apple TV received a passable B grade for its tolerable interface.
