생필품 지원 ‘그냥드림’ 이달부터 전국 시군구로 확대한다

The basic necessities support program 'Ganyangdream' will expand nationwide from next month, according to the Ministry of Health and Welfare. The ministry announced on the 6th that from mid-next month, 'Ganyangdream' will be implemented in all cities and counties nationwide, without the need for complex income verification procedures.

This expansion will commence sequentially, covering the 55 cities and counties that were previously unenrolled. First launched in 57 locations across the country in December last year, 'Ganyangdream' provides food and essential items to struggling residents without first checking income or property standards. It then targets repeat users for counseling and links them to welfare services.

President Yoon Suk-yeol introduced the 'Gyeonggi Food Dream Corner' in 2021 during his time as Gyeonggi-do governor, and the central government expanded it to a nationwide program. Over the past year, from December to July, approximately 210,000 citizens used the 'Ganyangdream Corner'. Among the users, 44,387 received welfare counseling services, with 4,437 linked to system-protected programs like basic living allowance and emergency welfare support.

The welfare department will begin a 'Visit-Ganyangdream' specifically for hard-to-reach vulnerable groups such as the elderly, disabled, and socially isolated residents in rural areas. Currently, in Jeollanam-do's Sinan County, mobile health and welfare teams are delivering supplies using vehicles, while in Gyeonggi's Bucheon City, the local post office collaborates to deliver 'Ganyangdream to your door.'

Welfare Secretary-General Eun-kyung Kim stated, "Over the past 10 months, 'Ganyangdream' has lowered the welfare threshold without requiring any proof of need, making it easier for vulnerable citizens to access support."

She added, "With 'Ganyangdream Corners' now installed in every city and county, we will work together with local governments and the private sector to create a robust support system and reach out to every individual in the welfare black spots."
