Steelers legendary QB leads 2026 countdown to kickoff: Day No. 7

The Pittsburgh Steelers will welcome back their iconic football brand on September 13 when they take on the Atlanta Falcons. To mark the countdown, we are highlighting the players who have worn the number 7 jersey in Steelers' history. Currently, there is no active player wearing the number 7 on the team, as it has been unofficially retired in honor of the franchise's greatest wearer.

The position of No. 8 on the Steelers has been occupied most recently by Aaron Rodgers (2025-present), Corliss Waitman (2024), Kenny Pickett (2022-2023), Melvin Ingram (2021), and Karl Joseph (2021).

The most notable history belongs to Ben Roethlisberger, the quarterback who wore the iconic number 7. Known as Big Ben, Roethlisberger was the 11th overall pick in the first round of the 2004 NFL Draft. He quickly made a significant impact on the Steelers by leading the team to 13 consecutive victories and setting an NFL record for the most regular-season wins by a rookie quarterback.

Roethlisberger played a crucial role in securing the Steelers' fifth and sixth Super Bowl championships and became the youngest quarterback ever to win a Super Bowl at the age of 23. Throughout his 18-year career, he was a two-time NFL passing yards leader, a six-time Pro Bowler, and tied for the most games with a perfect passer rating with four. Additionally, he holds the franchise record for the most 500-yard passing games with four, with 64,088 passing yards and 211 touchdown passes.
