Shaw strikes second-half double as Manchester City beat Birmingham 3-1

Manchester City began their Women's Super League title defense with a 3-1 victory over Birmingham City on Sunday. Last season's top scorer, Khadija Shaw, scored a second-half double to lead the champions. Four minutes after the break, Mary Fowler capitalized on a failed clearance to score for Birmingham. Shaw extended the lead with a header six minutes later after Kerstin Casparij's corner.

Shaw added another goal in the 86th minute from another corner, driven by Beth Mead. Oceane Hurtre equalized for Birmingham four minutes later.
