SCDF national serviceman, 20, dies on duty at Marina Bay Fire Station in Singapore, police rule out foul play

In a tragic incident at Singapore’s Marina Bay Fire Station, a 20-year-old Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) national serviceman named Lance Corporal Muhammad Nur Ilham Mohammed Iswadi succumbed to his injuries while on duty. The incident occurred on September 6, 2022, less than a month after he had completed his firefighter training. CNA reported that Iswadi was discovered unconscious in the station’s training yard around 8:10am on the morning of the tragedy.

Upon finding Iswadi, SCDF personnel promptly began administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation before transporting him to Singapore General Hospital. Despite their immediate efforts, Iswadi’s condition continued to deteriorate, and he was later pronounced dead at the hospital. The SCDF confirmed that he had been conveyed to the hospital in an unconscious state and subsequently passed away.

According to the SCDF, Iswadi had enlisted in the force on February 10, 2022, and completed his firefighter course at the Civil Defence Academy on August 7 of the same year. He was subsequently posted to the Marina Bay Fire Station on August 18, 2022, just three weeks before the fatal event.

Police investigations have commenced, but preliminary findings suggest that there is no indication of foul play. "Based on preliminary investigations, the police do not suspect foul play," the police stated. As the investigation continues, the SCDF expressed its profound sorrow over Iswadi’s untimely death. "We are saddened by his death and extend our deepest condolences to his family," the force said. They also assured the family that they are providing all necessary support during this trying period.
