Rayer demands probe into alleged PAS-US meeting over government plot

DAP's Jelutong MP R.S.N. Rayer has demanded a formal investigation into PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang's claim of a meeting between PAS leaders and US officials over an alleged attempt to topple the government, according to reports. Rayer stated that the allegation, if accurate, should not be dismissed as mere political rhetoric but rather regarded as a serious matter concerning national security and sovereignty.

He urged the Government and national security agencies to discover the truth about the alleged meeting, requesting details such as the participants, the date, location, authorization, and the topics discussed during the gathering. Rayer questioned why Hadi Awang did not immediately report the meeting to the relevant authorities, such as the Prime Minister, Home Ministry, Foreign Ministry, police, or national security agencies, and why PAS remained silent on the matter for so long.

He called the alleged actions "treachery" and "treason," emphasizing that the sovereignty of Malaysia is above any political party. PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang made the controversial claim during the opening of the 72nd PAS Muktamar, alleging that US officials sought to influence Malaysia's political leadership. The US Embassy in Kuala Lumpur has denied any involvement in trying to determine Malaysia's political leadership, stating that such reports are false. However, the claims have not been independently verified.
